VMware Workstation Player是VMware推出的一款简易虚拟机软件，是VMware Workstation的免费版，功能较VMware Workstation Pro简单，可免费用于个人非商业用途（VMware Workstation Pro才能用于商业用途）。VMware Workstation Pro安装过程会一并安装VMware Workstation Player，用户也可以在VMware网站下载VMware Workstation Player。

2008年6月6日，VMware发表VMware Player 1.0，功能较VMware Workstation简单，但独立于VMware Workstation之外。

2015年，VMware Workstation发表12版，VMware Player转型为VMware Workstation的免费版并改名为VMware Workstation Player，VMware Workstation的付费版定名为VMware Workstation Pro。
